RISD Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Pearce’s own Coach Sean Dowlatshahi, AP World History teacher, Varsity Men’s Soccer Coach and Mock Trial Team sponsor, who was named by the RISD Tomorrow Stars to be Richardson’s Secondary Teacher of the Year for 2006-07.  Coach Dowlatshahi, or Coach “D”, as he is called by his students, was selected for his outstanding teaching methods, his passion for the profession and his ability to be a positive role model for students and colleagues alike.  A former student observed “His character and passion were palpable no matter what he was talking about, and he was always there if you needed help or just a compassionate ear.  The values and work ethic that Coach D demonstrated are qualities I try to emulate to this day. ”A parent wrote, “Coach D’s ability to recognize potential in a student and take steps to draw that potential to the surface is unparalleled”.  Principal Karen Neal noted “Sean Dowlatshahi is a living example of the American dream.  He came to this country at the age of twelve and worked very hard to get an education and always held standards for himself.  It is those same high standards that he demands of his students.”  A colleague wrote, Sean’s greatest gift, his greatest asset, is his passion for teaching that he carries with him every day.  For Sean, teaching is not just a job; it is his calling, his essence.” Again, congratulations to Coach Dowlatshahi who exemplifies Pearce pride!

Left to Right :   Jay Moran, Elyse Burkert, Coral Robles and Elena Arsova congratulate Coach D.

choir news

Choir Parent dinner is Tuesday night Sept. 18 at 6:30PM in the Corral.  Reservations for a Taco Cabana dinner are required (absolute last deadline is Monday morning.)  Even if you can’t come for dinner come at 7:00 to hear all that is coming up in this exciting year for choir.  You won’t want to miss A cappella choir as they reprise their RISD Convocation performance (for an audience of 5000 RISD teachers and administrators) with award winning choreography by our own Kim Quirk!

Choir parents can still drop into the mum store and work to help defray choir trip expenses with the proceeds that the PTA is sharing with Booster groups.  The work needed varies by day.  We hope to have a mass work day closer to homecoming when a large amount of help is needed.

Choir Students continue selling the Entertainment Passbook 2008 until September 21st.  Help choir students make their San Antonio trip in May and save some serious bucks on everyday expenses like restaurants, movies, car washes, hotels, rental cars, grocery bills, and so much more.

Keep up with all of our activities at www.pearcechoir.com.

Mustang Mum Store now taking orders

25 days to homecoming!

Order your Mums, Friendship Mums and Garters at the Mum Store (1465 W. Campbell Road).  Our hours for the week of September 17 are:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - 9 am to 9 pm
Thursday - 10 am - 3 pm
Friday and Saturday - 9 am - 5 pm
When a student orders a mum or garter, it then gets the loving touches of a finisher (names are attached to name loops, trinkets and bows are
added to the basic mum, etc.) and it becomes a gorgeous item to wear and to have as a keepsake.
We need finishers.  People who have a creative flair and who can spend quite a few hours at the mum store to help us create these lovely
mums.  If you can help us finish, please email directly to mustangmumstore@gmail.com.  You will be added to a special email list
that will keep you up to date on the status of our orders.
This is now a critical time for the mum store.  We need finishers!
Thank you for all of your support up to this point.

Vicki Barrett and Michelle Gililland

Record your volunteer hours now

RECORD YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS NOW!  Simply go to the PTA website at www.jjpearcepta.org and click on 'Volunteer Hours' OR email your name, the dates and hours you worked and the activity to one of the email addresses below.  This information is used in garnering awards for our school and promoting Pearce and RISD within the state and country. The recognition that we receive for the volunteer hours worked strengthens the reputation of our school and our neighborhoods and benefits us all. Volunteer Hours include attending meetings, baking, and helping with fundraisers such as the Mum Store or any Booster Club or school event—anything that you or your student does for Pearce that does not result in a grade. Always include 15 minutes driving time to and from school—and keep track of the time you spend running errands on behalf of a school event. You may record your hours in a combined total and enter a general description of your activities. Remember, the NUMBER of hours is much more important than a detailed description of the volunteer activity! If you have already signed in at the Mum Store or at another event, those hours have already been submitted and should not be duplicated.

Thank you for supporting JJ Pearce!
