Parents of Seniors: Important Graduation Information
This year the graduation regalia will have a new
addition. All students will be wearing a Pearce Mustang
bright red stole with their graduation gowns. Balfour
has included this item in the cap & gown package, but if
your child is borrowing a cap & gown from an older
sibling or other past graduate, you will want to
purchase the new red stole and, of course, the 2008
tassel for their cap from Balfour. If your student did
not order these items from Balfour on one of the 3 days
that they were here in the Corral, you may contact them
at 972-495-2440.

MUSTANG BAND ADVANCES TO STATE UIL MARCHING
COMPETITION!!!
Way to go Mighty Mustang Band! For the first
time in 20 years, the MMB is headed to the UIL
State Marching Competition. The MMB was one of
two bands selected at the UIL 4A Area marching
competition to advance to the State Competition.
They will compete at the Alamodome in San
Antonio on Tuesday, November 6th for
the top 4A marching band in the state.!
Their dedication and hard work has certainly
paid off and is evidenced by the number of
compliments that have been received from
parents, fans, and competitors alike.
Congratulations MMB on your successes and for
making Pearce proud and thanks to the Mustang
fans for all of their support.
band showcase this tuesday
On Tuesday, October 30, RISD will be presenting
a Band Showcase of the district’s high school
marching band productions. On that evening, each
of the four RISD high schools will be performing
their contest show for the public at
Mustang-Eagle stadium. The exact times are still
being determined, but as only four bands will be
performing, the event should not last longer
than about one hour. This will be an excellent
opportunity for parents to see our entire show
right before the state marching contest. In
addition, you can help support all of the band
programs in RISD by cheering on the other
schools.

2008 graduates casino party
information
On the night of graduation, the
parents of graduating seniors have traditionally
hosted and chaperoned an alcohol and drug free
event. Our hope is to discourage drinking and
driving and to encourage our graduates to get
together one last time for an evening of fun and
games. The party will be held the night of
graduation June 7, 2008 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
at the Summit Ballroom in Plano. There
will be mock casino games, prizes for every ticket
holder, bingo, a DJ and dancing, a mechanical bull,
door prizes, food, and many other exciting
activities... The party is for Pearce seniors
only. It is not a date affair and dress will be
casual. Each family is asked to help underwrite
this party with a $30 contribution. Purchase your
ticket early and save some $$$$.
We have instituted an early payment
system that will allow your senior to receive extra
casino chips. These chips are exchanged at the
party for a chance to win a number of fabulous
gifts. By receiving these funds early, it allows
the committee more time to purchase gifts and add
activities.
Early Payment before November 15

Payment from 11/16-3/15 = $105.00 +

ask officer orton
Pearce's own Officer Orton has a
new column in the weekly Enews. You may submit your
questions regarding teenagers and the law each week by
sending an email to
PearceNews.
Officer Orton will answer questions ranging from curfews
to truancy to drugs and alcohol.
This week's question comes from a parent
regarding the unusually high number of alcohol related
citations.
Dear Officer Orton,
Do you keep statistics on the MIC and MIP
infractions at our school? These seem to be more
prevalent than in years past. Can you explain why? Are
the Richardson and Dallas Police Forces both involved?
Maybe if parents knew how many violations we have had
this year, they could talk to their kids about the risks
involved. These include, but are not limited to:
expulsion from team sports, activities, clubs, and
serious health consequences such as alcohol poisoning
and car accidents. Thank you for a job well done.
Dear Parent,
I do not have the statistics. I can tell
you that since mid summer in Richardson, I am aware of
three separate student gatherings where PHS students
were issued citations off campus and two incidents on
campus or at a school event. The total number of
citations (during 4 months) issued is the most I've
ever seen during the 14 years I've been at Pearce. I
do not have the Dallas area (DPD) statistics.
The Student Assistant Team is
Alive and Well
Today’s
high school student faces many challenges. Academic,
social, or emotional problems impair a student's ability
to learn and reach his or her fullest personal
potential. Break ups with friends or sweethearts,
family difficulties, depression, divorce, alcohol,
tobacco, and drugs, are a few examples that might block
a student's success.
The
Student Assistance Team (SAT) looks for ways to help
students overcome academic and social problems that
hinder their learning and success in school. This is
accomplished by connecting the student to existing
on-campus services (such as counseling, mentoring,
mediation, etc.) and/or community resources.
Kim Bayer, Lynda Calderwood, Pamela
DeVoll, Miranda Gilliam, Nona Killgore, Kathleen Powell
and Brad Skaggs are the 2007-2008 team members of the
student assistance team. Look for the orange helping
hands on their doors.
Students
can be referred by fellow students, staff, parents,
community members and staff. All referrals are kept
strictly confidential. No permanent records are kept.
Referrals are located in every classroom and there is a
mailbox outside of the counselors’ office to drop off
completed referrals.
If you
know someone experiencing problems that could interfere
with their learning ability, please let a member of the
SAT know your concerns.
