please join us thursday morning
for our veterans day assembly
The
Pearce community is invited to the 2007 Pearce High
School Veterans Day Assembly. The Assembly will be
Thursday, November 8, at 9:45 am in the Pearce
Gym. There will be a reception in the Corral at
9:00 for our Veterans, the Pearce Exchange Club and
Senior Class representatives from all areas of the
Athletic teams, band, fine arts, Mustang Stampede and
other organizations.

We have an incredible speaker this year. Our speaker
is Colonel (ret.) Allen B. Clark. Mr. Clark is the
author of
Wounded Soldier, Healing
Warrior, a book that chronicles his experiences
in Vietnam and his recovery from injuries sustained in
the war. Mr. Clark speaks to groups all over the US and
was a guest of Larry King Live in May, 2007.
Mr. Clark graduated the United States Military Academy
in 1963 and was commissioned in the Army Corps of
Engineers. Two years following his graduation from West
Point, Clark volunteered for a tour in Vietnam where he
served as a Military Intelligence officer assigned to
the Fifth Special Forces Group. He sustained injuries in
an early-morning mortar attack at the Dak To Special
Forces camp on June 17, 1967, necessitating the
amputation of both legs below his knees. In recognition
of his military service and sacrifice, he received a
Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, the Purple Heart,
and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was
airborne-qualified.
Clark retired in 2005 as the Public Affairs Officer for
the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, Texas.
His current lay ministry is involved in outreach efforts
to help veterans recover emotionally and spiritually
from adverse wartime experiences. He participates in
many community and civic activities, including regularly
speaking at various group events and churches. He has
addressed many audiences nationwide as a political
candidate, public official, and motivational speaker.
Clark's autobiography titled Wounded Soldier,
Healing Warrior was published in early 2007 by
Zenith Press.
Visit
www.WoundedSoldierHealingWarrior.com
for more information.
We invite all veterans, especially the family
members of Pearce students, to attend.

2008 graduates casino party
information
On the night of graduation, the
parents of graduating seniors have traditionally
hosted and chaperoned an alcohol and drug free
event. Our hope is to discourage drinking and
driving and to encourage our graduates to get
together one last time for an evening of fun and
games. The party will be held the night of
graduation June 7, 2008 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
at the Summit Ballroom in Plano. There
will be mock casino games, prizes for every ticket
holder, bingo, a DJ and dancing, a mechanical bull,
door prizes, food, and many other exciting
activities... The party is for Pearce seniors
only. It is not a date affair and dress will be
casual. Each family is asked to help underwrite
this party with a $30 contribution. Purchase your
ticket early and save some $$$$.
We have instituted an early payment
system that will allow your senior to receive extra
casino chips. These chips are exchanged at the
party for a chance to win a number of fabulous
gifts. By receiving these funds early, it allows
the committee more time to purchase gifts and add
activities.
Early Payment before November 15

ask officer orton
Pearce's own Officer Orton has a
new column in the weekly Enews. You may submit your
questions regarding teenagers and the law each week by
sending an email to
PearceNews.
Officer Orton will answer questions ranging from curfews
to truancy to drugs and alcohol.
This week's question comes from a parent
regarding the unusually high number of alcohol related
citations.
Dear Officer Orton,
Do you keep statistics on the MIC and MIP
infractions at our school? These seem to be more
prevalent than in years past. Can you explain why? Are
the Richardson and Dallas Police Forces both involved?
Maybe if parents knew how many violations we have had
this year, they could talk to their kids about the risks
involved. These include, but are not limited to:
expulsion from team sports, activities, clubs, and
serious health consequences such as alcohol poisoning
and car accidents. Thank you for a job well done.
Dear Parent,
I do not have the statistics. I can tell
you that since mid summer in Richardson, I am aware of
three separate student gatherings where PHS students
were issued citations off campus and two incidents on
campus or at a school event. The total number of
citations (during 4 months) issued is the most I've
ever seen during the 14 years I've been at Pearce. I
do not have the Dallas area (DPD) statistics.
