pearce teachers write financial literacy curriculum

Social Studies department head Adrienne Williamson and AP Economics teacher Liz Soch recently were asked to present at the Social Studies District meeting.  The state legislature has mandated that personal financial literacy be taught to all students through their economics classes.  Mrs. Williamson and Ms. Soch worked on this curriculum during the summer and compiled a notebook and CD for every economics teacher in the district outlining activities and websites that could be used to cover the topics.  Social Studies Curriculum Director Anne Marie Yarborough praised these two teachers for their efforts to improve this curriculum and for an outstanding presentation on November 5th.

choir news

Fall is a busy time in choir. Because area food banks are low on supplies, we are collecting non perishable foods and toiletries like shampoo and toothpaste in the choir room!

The Pearce fall concert was held on November 12.  All choirs performed.

Tuesday Nov.20 is PIE DAY.  All choir students bring a pie to the choir room before school and then get to sample pie throughout the day.  Pearce staff members are invited down to the end of the long, long, music hallway to share some pie and friendship during lunch.  This has become a fun annual event.

Wednesday Nov. 21 is our TURKEY BOWL.  Choir students gather at Campbell Green at 10AM for some football “choir style.”  Another annual Thanksgiving event.

Thanks to all who ordered holiday greenery during our annual sale.  Delivery of plants will begin on Dec. 5th.

You are invited to “save the date” for Pearceapalooza 07-08.  On December 13, the all-choir pop show comes to the Pearce auditorium.  There will be cider and cookies at intermission and lots of great music.  More details coming soon!

Congratulations to our Region Choir students who spent Saturday November 10 in a clinic and concert.

building the pearce legacy brick by brick

On November 8, 2007 the Pearce Athletic Booster Club and the Legacy Brick Steering Committee kicked off the PABC Legacy Brick Campaign.  This campaign is "Building the Pearce Legacy Brick by Brick" and will create a new showplace at Pearce outside the school entrance to the Gymnasium composed of engraved bricks commemorating students, alumni, faculty and community leaders.  Funds from the Legacy Brick Campaign will not only create this showplace but will also be used for some exciting new beautification and branding projects at Pearce benefiting all students.  You will not want to miss this opportunity to be among the first bricks to be laid.

You choose what your brick will say and what logos are used among many choices.  Click Here to view logo choices. Forms are available at the Pearce Information Desk or Click Here to download the form.  Your brick number will be assigned by when your order is received.  In other words, the earlier it is received, the lower brick number you will get!

Bricks cost $50 and payment must be made by cash or check when the order is placed.  Since many of you will want to order multiple bricks, remember that you must fill out an order form for each brick ordered.  Bricks make a great holiday, birthday, graduation, coach or teacher gift.  Forms may also be turned in at the Information Desk.  For further information please contact Sally Field at (972) 387-1914.

boys basketball news

The Mustangs started out the season with a nice win over Garland Lakeview.  The team then traveled to Houston for the Texas Invitational
Tournament where they competed against the top ranked 5A teams in Texas. Pearce played stifling defense to stun 5A 11th ranked
Mansfield Summit and 17th ranked Katy Taylor, handing them their first losses of the tournament. High scorers were Bruce Smith and
Chris Bowie. The Mustangs went on to give the 2nd ranked 5A team in the state, Klein Collins, all they could handle. The Stangs led at
halftime but 3rd period foul trouble enabled Klein to pull out a 64-60 win.  Bryan Parker and Papi Kaba led the offense.
Down by 1 point at halftime, the Mustangs battled hard against #4 Alief-Hastings but couldn't compete with their depth. Bryan Parker
contributed 22 points as the Mustangs fell 66-59.  The team will finish in the top 8 out of 48 teams in this elite tournament.
GREAT JOB MUSTANGS!
With 1 day rest, the team returns to play AT Mesquite-Horn on MONDAY (day change) at 7:30. JV @ 6:00. Freshmen @ 5:00/6:30.
FIRST HOME GAME of the season is Tuesday, November 27 at 6:00/7:30.

pacesetter news

Look for the Pacesetter officers in New York City’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

In 1924, Macy’s employees treated Manhattan to New York City’s first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  It was such a rousing success that Macy’s declared it would become an annual event. Over eighty years later, 2.5 million people line the streets and another 44 million tune in to NBC to watch the balloons, floats, celebrities, bands, and clown crews in the most spectacular holiday celebration in the world.

This year, on Thanksgiving Day, tune in to watch the 2007-2008 JJ Pearce Pacesetter officers, Captain Emma Clarke, First Lieutenant Caren Mandelbaum, Jr. Lieutenant Nadia Bahramnejad and Jr. Lieutenant Hayley Shelton perform in their red Santa Helper outfits as members of the MMA (Mike Miller and Associates Special Events) Dance Team.  They will be joined by more than 500 high school dance and drill team students from across the nation to perform in the world-famous parade!
