You should have received a RISD Parent Survey in the mail.   Please take the time to fill out this survey to assist us in planning for 2008-2009.  Return completed surveys by May 15. Click Here if you need another copy. Surveys are anonymous; however, parents should write the name of the school at the top of the survey.  We are asking parents to complete one survey for each child enrolled in RISD.  Survey results will be used to help develop plans for next year.

Attention National Honor Society Junior Members:  It is time to elect new officers for NHS for next year.  Applications will be available the week of May 5-9.  Due to the time of year, please pay close attention to the time frame for the elections.  All details for the election process will be in the officer packet.  So, come by Room A209 and see Mrs. Lewis if you would like to pick up an application packet---May 5-9 in Room A209 for NHS Officer information!!

red stoles coming May 15

Due to a shipping problem, Balfour was not able on Friday, May 2 to bring the new red stoles that every graduate will wear this year.  They will be back on campus on Thursday, May 15 outside the corral during lunches to deliver them to all students who ordered their cap & gown through Balfour and to sell them to students who are borrowing their cap & gown from a sibling or friend who already graduated from Pearce.  They offer their sincere apology for this inconvenience

final transcripts

A copy of your Final Transcript must be sent to the college you plan to attend next fall.  If one is not on file at the college, the college will block your registration for spring classes. The yellow, final transcript request form is in the counseling office.  Each transcript is $2.00 paid at the time of the request in order for the transcript to be mailed after school is out. You also need to bring a stamped-addressed envelope with the transcript request form.

The National Honor Society announces the first annual Community Service Fair to be held on the morning of Wednesday, May 28 for all grade levels. The purpose of this event is to encourage Pearce students to pursue volunteer opportunities in the community. We will be hosting numerous representatives from various community organizations. Students will visit booths to learn about each group’s volunteer needs for the summer and beyond. Don't miss your chance to find out ways to serve your community! More details to follow.

PEARCE BANDS PERFORM AT THE MEYERSON SYMPHONY this week!

The Pearce High School Wind Ensemble, Symphonic and Concert bands as well as the Parkhill Junior High Symphonic band will be performing at 7:00 p.m. May 7, 2008 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.   This is the final major concert of the 2007-2008 season for these bands, performed in an inspiring and professional venue.  You won't want to miss the talents of these students at their best!  Tickets are still available the evening of the concert and are priced from $8.00 to $25.00   The Meyerson is located in downtown Dallas at 2301 Flora Street.   

 

Join the Colorguard!

Auditions are open to any student coming to Pearce High School for the '08-'09 school year. Those interested in trying out should attend the Colorguard Clinics on May 20th and 21st from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm in the Pearce Band Hall. Tryouts will be held May 22nd at 5:00 pm. percolation monday night

Come one and all to the newest Forte’ show, Percolation!  It’s Monday Night (May 5) at 7:30 PM in the Corral.  Just $5 at the door for some great musical entertainment with the choreography of our own Kim Quirk.  Plus we have coffee and donuts from the brand new Dunkin Donuts on Campbell Road at Preston.  Forte’ is so grateful for their sponsorship!  The mood is mellow so take a break from all the “busy-ness” of May and join us for a candle-lit coffee-house concert. 

 

'08 - '09 choir trip

The Pearce Choir has announced a once in a life time 10 day tour to ITALY.  We are very excited about the invitation to perform at the Vatican and the opportunity to perform in other beautiful venues in Venice, Florence and Rome.  Current choir parents and future choir parents (for the 08-09 year) are invited to come to an informational meeting on May 8 at 7PM in the choir room which can be accessed directly from the door on the east side of the campus across from the Natatorium.  Rick Dillard, president of American Classic Festivals and Tours will be present to outline the tour and the costs.

May 12 is another important parent meeting for choir.  At 7PM in the choir room, the details and paperwork concerning the trip to San Antonio on May 16th.  This meeting is mandatory for parents with students going on this trip.  There will be a brief PACBC meeting to elect new officers as well.  Then following the general meeting, upcoming Forte’ parents for the 08-09 will have an information meeting including show details, calendar items, and program ad sales.  Lots of meetings in choir this month!

Seniors who are planning to participate in college sports, please be sure to register with NCAA Clearinghouse and request a transcript to be sent from the counseling office to NCAA Clearinghouse to complete your registration with them.  For more information please come to the counseling office and talk with your counselor or Mrs. Ratcliff.

The JJ Pearce Baseball family is proud to have another college signee. Justin Villanueva will be playing next year for Austin College in Sherman. Justin is talented not only on the baseball field but an outstanding academic student. He is a member of  National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Pre-Med Club.  We are all very proud of Justin and wish him success in his future endeavors.

sideline sweethearts

This is a spirit organization for junior and senior girls that supports the boys varsity football team. They are responsible for decorating the boy's front doors, painting posters to be hung at school, giving favors for each game and sitting together at varsity games. The cost of being a Sideline Sweetheart is $30 which will pay for an ad for the football program and a jersey which will be worn on game days. The next meeting will be Thursday, May 8th at 4:15 in the cafeteria. Please bring $30 cash or check made out to Sherri Allen. Congratulations to Pearce senior Marcella Fallon, Berkner senior Paul Chepregi and LHHS senior Jessica Girards. These outstanding 
athletes are headed to the Senior Select National Gymnastics Championships. They were named to the national team at the Texas 
State High School Gymnastics Championships meet that was held in late April.
 
Velmor Estillore (Pearce class of '97) coaches Berkner and Pearce gymnasts. RHS Coach Trena Rodgers (Pearce class of '00), will 
accompany the gymnasts to the competition, which is May 16-17 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Richardson Hockey Finishes Best Season Ever and Gets Ready for Next Year

The Richardson Rampage Ice Hockey Varsity and Junior Varsity teams represent Pearce as well as the other RISD high schools in the AT&T High School Hockey League.  Both the Varsity and JV teams finished their seasons in second place and made it to the third round of their playoffs.  At the recent season-end banquet, three Pearce seniors were among the graduating players honored.  All three hope to keep playing hockey on their colleges' club or intramural teams:  Steven Duchin (UT-Austin), Nick Sellers (Boston College), and Michael Spanos (Texas Tech).  At the banquet two special awards were given:  Steven received the Leadership Award and Nick received the Scholar-Athlete Award.  Nick was also just named to the Dallas Morning News All-Area Varsity Silver team.

There will be an open house/skate on Sunday May 18th at 2:00 pm at the Ice Training Center (200 Centennial Blvd, Richardson) for all players interested in playing on the 2008-09 teams.  You will skate with the players and coaches and learn about plans for the 08-09 season. State Bound Tennis Players.  
Congratulations are in store for several Mustang Tennis players.  Senior Anastaia Zavgorodni, 4A, Region II Singles Champion and 
Juniors Hannah Kelley and Jonny Kelley,  4A, Region II Mixed Doubles Champions are heading to Austin for the State Tournament.  
They will be in Austin May 5th and 6th competing against the State's best Tennis players. Also, from the Regional Tournament,

2008 - 2009 Tryout Information

If you are considering signing up for Pearce tennis next year, please consider the following information: While Pearce tennis is considered a class on your schedule - it is not an actual "Beginners or Intermediate Lessons" type of class. It is basically two teams, Junior Varsity and Varsity, who play competitive matches in the region. Junior Varsity is made up of mostly experienced players on or around the Zat level. Varsity is made up of USTA qualified players for both Champs and Super Champs. If you believe that your are qualified for our program, then come to the tryouts on May 12th, 12th, 14th and 15th at the Pearce Tennis courts from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Bring your own towel and water. Parking: $4 cash only and is located directly across from the hotel - You must enter at the Conference Center entrance

         directly across from the parking garage

Hours:  9:00pm to 1:00am, but you must arrive before 10:30pm because no one will be admitted after that time

Menu:  heavy on desserts; but several hors d’oeuvres

Points to remember:

·        Once you leave the ballroom area, you cannot come back in (so going to car or exiting the building not allowed

         unless you are leaving)

casino party needs volunteers

The graduation party will be held June 7, the night of graduation. We need volunteers to help decorate that morning. We will be at the Summit Ballroom in Plano at 10:00 am. The Summit is located on Summit just off of Jupiter, north of George Bush Tollway.


Yearbook Deadline is THIS WEEK!

Yearbook orders are due by Friday, May 9. If you wish to deliver your order in person, bring it to Room C219 no later than 3:20 p.m. on May 9. We will accept orders by mail after this date as long as they are postmarked no later than May 9. After May 9, we will no longer accept yearbook orders. You can print an order form at Yearbook Central (see the link on the right side of the Pearce home page). If we have extra books, they will go on sale during exam week for $80.

JJ Pearce PTA wins Platinum Award for Recording 34,792.25 Volunteer Hours January - December 2007!

Thank you to all of our wonderful parents, staff, and students who volunteered on behalf of our school, our district and all of our students.  You helped the JJ Pearce PTA earn the TOP RISD Volunteer Services Award.  The Platinum award is given for volunteer hours that equal at least ten times a school’s enrollment.  With Pearce enrollment at 1,974 students, JJ Pearce recorded more than 17 times our school’s enrollment!

 

Congratulations to Vicki Barrett and Kathy Cook for receiving the PTA’s Golden Apple Awards for their outstanding volunteer contributions to our school. 

And, Congratulations also to Vicki Barrett and Michelle Gililland for receiving Golden Mum Awards for their work to make the Mum Store the amazing success it was during Homecoming 2007.

risd students invited to attend the Dallas Teen Job Fair
All RISD teens are invited to attend the Dallas Teen Job Fair. It will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center located at 9940 White Rock Trail in Dallas (across from Lake Highlands High school). A workshop will be presented in the morning to teach teens interviewing skills and they will then be able to network with area businesses at the afternoon job fair. The job fair is sponsored by members of the Lake Highlands’ community, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, local school districts and area businesses. 


Erickson / Highlands Springs now hiring for summer
We are interested in partnering with local schools to staff our dining services department with positive, intelligent, and energetic students. We offer employment to students between the ages of 14 and 18 years of age. Our students generally work 3 days per week and the shifts are from 4:00pm-7:00pm for the 14 & 15 year olds and 4:00pm- 8:30 pm for students 16 and over. This part-time job affords your students the ability to earn an income, and an opportunity to receive up to $4000 from our scholarship fund. We also offer a flexible schedule, competitive wages, advancement opportunities and a safe and secure working environment. (See flier for additional benefits)

Our mission at Highland Springs is to share our gifts to create a community that celebrates life. Erickson is now now hiring for wait staff students and the position pays $6.75 an hour and utility workers which pays $7.50 an hour. at Highlands Springs at Coit/190.  See  job descriptions below. We will continue to accept applications all year round due to the ongoing expansion of our community. Erickson builds the community on demand, but by the time we have a total build out we estimate a need for a minimum of 200 students to fully staff the facility.
