choir news
If there is one word on everyone’s lips in
the choir room these days it is “SALSA.”
The entire choir and chaperones got in on
the Salsa dancing lessons during the choir
trip to San Antonio. The instructor didn’t
show up but not to be dissuaded, Mrs. Kim
Quirk came to the rescue and had the group
dancing in no time. We watched the video at
our great Choir Banquet last Wednesday night
and had fun all over again.

There is an All Important Fund raising
meeting for parents of prospective Italy
trip students. Meet on May 28th
in the choir room at 7PM. Bella
Italia!

JJP Baseball Banquet Draws Season to an End
At Canyon Creek Country Club the players, coaches,
parents and special guests enjoyed a great evening
as we all celebrated our player’s successes.
In the inspiration senior Michael Koval said
it best “Many people might look at this season as a
failure because we didn’t make playoffs again. But
we should take much more out of this season than our
win-loss record, our batting averages and our earned
run averages. What we should take from this season
is knowing that good or bad, win or lose, our family
and friends will always be there for us. What we
should take from this season is knowing that we gave
it our all and that we never gave up on each
other”.
Coaches Benton, Roberton, Janes and Kanzler were all
very pleased with the competitiveness and
sportsmanship that our Pearce athletes showed during
some tough competition in the season. District
10-4A is one of the toughest districts in the state
with 2 teams still competing in the state playoff
rounds. The Varsity had a .500 season. With some
great wins over good 5A teams, like McKinney Boyd
and Berkner. We had our largest JV group in Pearce
history with 26 players. This will certainly set
the stage for some good teams in the future.

The Top Baseball honors this year went to five very
deserving young men; Most Improved Player-
Madison Kvapil, Golden Glove - Zach Briggs,
Golden Arm – Matt Faulkner, Big Stick –
Michael Koval, and The Fighting Mustang
Award – Michael Neinast. The seniors
will be missed but look for good things from your
Mustang Baseball Team in the future

pacesetter officers named for '08 - '09
The Pacesetter officer tryouts were
held on Thursday May 22nd. The girls were required
to present to the team and a panel of 3 judges a
self choreographed solo routine and a group dance
taught by senior officers Emma Clarke and Caren
Mandelbaum. Also required of the girls were a
formal interview and a showing of their traditional
kick routine, “Deep in the Heart of Texas”. Another
aspect of this tryout dealt with creativity. As
such, the girls were required to create a note book
about themselves displaying a personal resume,
pictures, a series of leadership and interview
questions and answers, in addition to portraying
ideas for Revue and Pep Rally routines, complete
with costume designs and music. The first part of
the tryouts started on Thursday morning at 7:30am by
presenting to the team. The second part took place
on the same day after school for the panel of judges
and concluded at 7:30pm. The results were announced

Seniors '09 Yearbook
Portraits – Summer Schedule
Seniors (Class of 2009), PLEASE take advantage of
convenient summer opportunities offered by our
school photographer, Don Painter Photography,
to have your senior portrait made for the yearbook.
In addition to studio sittings, they will be taking
pictures at Pearce on June 23 and 24, July 25 and
August 6 beginning at 9 a.m. in the foyer of the big
gym. If you do not have your portrait made during
the summer either at school or at the Don Painter
studio, you MUST have it made at school on Thursday,
August 28.
You will receive additional
information by mail about pricing, etc. PLEASE OPEN
ALL YOUR MAIL, AND PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO
INFORMATION ABOUT DON PAINTER PHOTOGRAPHY!
Will Your Child’s
Picture be in the Yearbook?
An Important Word About DIRECTORY
INFORMATION
Parents, when completing the DIRECTORY INFORMATION
card you receive in your child’s registration
packet, please read the instructions carefully!
Failing to check the boxes accurately can result in
your child’s exclusion from a variety of school
activities and services. In order for your child’s
name and photo to appear in the directory section of
the yearbook, you MUST release his name, photograph
and grade level for RISD School Sponsored Purposes.
Every year we have broken-hearted students and
disappointed parents who did not realize that by
failing to turn in a Directory Information card, or
by failing to complete it accurately, they were
being excluded from the portrait section of the
yearbook – don’t be among them!
