J. J. Pearce Colorguard Shine in Spring Competitions

The J.J. Pearce High School Colorguard recently took home first place at a March 7th contest and received national recognition for a performance on the following day, March 8th.

The Colorguard, directed by Renee Cantrell and Diunte White, received 1st place at the Lamar HS Contest in Arlington. Less than 12 hours later, the students performed again at the WGI International Dallas Regional, held at South Grand Prairie High School. Because of the excessive number of units competing in this contest, 15 were chosen to perform again in a Finals Competition Saturday night. J.J. Pearce was one of the units selected and at the end of the night, received 5th place, after an impressive performance.

On March 9th, it was announced that for that competition, Pearce Colorguard was ranked 13th in the nation!  This accomplishment is without precedence for this organization. Sponsor, Renee Cantrell said of the team, "The J.J. Pearce Colorguard this year has exceeded my expectations.  They are a hard working, dedicated and gifted group of girls of whom I could not be prouder.  They are an example of what is outstanding in today's youth."

The team has additional competitions scheduled for this spring including state championship in South Grand Prairie on April 5th.

Front row - Susan Duh, Paige Barnett, Akea Pipkins, Hayley Woodbury

pearce takes top honors at 24 hour video race

Pearce Video teams recently placed 1st and 2nd at the annual 24 hour video race held on March 7th at PDC. The contest, sponsored by the technology department, consists of teams from all four high schools. This year's winning team was led by John Redlinger and Brett Thiele with Elizabeth Judd, Tyler Miller, Trevor Gitlin, Christin Felts and Caleb Lewis. Second place went to Tim Sekiguchi and David Escamilla's team with Evan Schutza, Sam Schweikert, Josh Gold, Blake Jumonville, Dylan Anderson and Mark Rubin.  The teams met at the PDC at 6 PM on Friday to select 2 props, 2 locations and a quote from literature, music and the movies. Each element had to be worked into the five minute film. Then teams headed off to a safe house to brainstorm and create a script. They then shot, edited and returned on Saturday before 7PM with a completed film which was judged by area film directors and members of the Dallas Film Institute who sponsor the Dallas Film Festival. Needless to say, we are very proud of our future filmmakers!

Girls’ Gymnastics Team Place 2nd in the District.

This year started out on shaky grounds, the Pearce Gymnastics Team was without a coach for several weeks. Although gymnastics competition season does not begin until January, gymnasts workout year round, taking any time off for illness, injury or not having  a coach puts quite a strain on the gymnasts. Due to much perseverance by Coach Robertson and Coach Duby, in October, we welcomed Coach Velmor Estillore of AWTC Gymnastics in Addison.

This year’s team has grown in size and spirit.  Girl’s All-Around competitors are those that will compete in all events:  Floor, Vault, Beam and Bars.  All-Around Competitors are:  Senior - Marcella Fallon, Junior - Breanna Ross,  Sophomore -  Emily Thoes,  Freshman - Megan Frazier. Other team members compete on individual events,  Senior, Ashley Allen; Sophomores, Sheila Duh and Ali Campos; Freshmen, Emily Barbeau, Stephanie Fleming, Katy Rumsey, Taylor Ayers and new students Bree Sparkman and Rikki Turnage

Boy’s All- Around competitors will compete in all events:  Floor, Vault, High Bar, Parallel Bars, Rings, and Pommel Horse.  Boy’s Team Members are Juniors – Kevin Strong, All-Around and Donovan Murphy competes, Pommel Horse, Floor and Rings.

The girls have stepped up to the challenge and held with the JJ Pearce tradition of high quality gymnastics placing 2nd at all but one meet for the season.  March 26th  and 27th  the girls’ and boys’ teams competed at the District Championship at Highland Park.  For the Boy’s, Kevin will compete All – Around and Donovan will compete on Pommel Horse at the Regional Championships in April.  For 7+ years the girls’ have placed in the top 2!!!  This year was no exception!!  Congratulations Ladies!!

The Regional Gymnastics Championships will be held at Highland Park on April 7th and 8th at 1:00pm both days.

Congratulations to the JJ Pearce Gymnastics Team!!

Girl's Varsity Soccer
The Varsity Girls ended season play with a 6 - 0 win against Prosper Eagles in Prosper. Pearce goals were scored Junior Molly Hummel, Freshman Veronica Pippard, Senior Danielle Sizer (2) and Sophomore Maddie Terry.

The Lady Mustangs then moved into District play, the first game was against Hillcrest High where the Pearce won 6 - 0. Goals we scored by Junior Molly Hummel (assist by Gayle Ziegler), Senior Kimmie Ernest (assist by Gayle Ziegler), Senior Laura Flink (assist by Kathryn Watson), Senior Danielle Sizer (Assist by Veronica Pippard), Freshman Hannah Tessaro (Assist by Molly Hummel) and Freshman Kaitlyn Fletcher. Junior goalkeeper Haley Newson kept the Hillcrest scoreless.

The second District game report from the Dallas Morning News on Wednesday, March 26th:
Richardson Pearce 2, McKinney High 0
Coach Alex Pantarotto's top-ranked Lionettes (18-1-2) were eliminated in Tuesday night's Area Round contest after losing their first match of the season.
Richardson Pearce knows how to break hearts in McKinney, having done so in this same round in 2007 by eliminating McKinney Boyd.
On Tuesday night at Hebron High School, Pearce's Taylor Mathews and Molly Hummel contributed the only goals of the game as the Lady Mustangs (16-2-3) moved onto the Regional Quarterfinals.
The Lionettes had a fantastic season that included the District 9-4A championship.
Pearce has yet to be scored upon in the playoffs, having beaten Dallas Hillcrest 6-0 in last week's Bi-District round.
The girls played a great game and kept that 2 – 0 half time score against and aggressive Lionette attack in the second half. Goalie Haley Newsom kept the team scoreless with the support of the defensive team.

The third District game report Dallas Morning News on Saturday, March 29th:

Pearce Wins Late

Richardson Pearce Junior Molly Hummel tucked an 18-yeard free kick high in the left corner of the goal to provide the only score in a 1-0 win over Mesquite Poteet on Friiday night at Wildcat-Ram Stadium

Hummel’s goal came with 1:30 remaining in the Class 4A Region II quarterfinals.

The game was a barn burner with the Lady Mustang's hitting the cross bars 4 times before they put one in the back of the net. Once again great saves by Junior goalkeeper Haley Newsom kept the Poteet Pirates scoreless.

Next game for the Lady Mustangs will be against Red Oak – keep winning girls!

                     Molly Hummel                                               Haley Newsom
