choir news
During the first weekend in March the talented
musicians from the Pearce High School Choral
Department hit the road once again. This time,
Fortè (along with
Fortissimo the Bear, the group’s
beloved mascot), returned to San Antonio to
participate in the 2008 American Classic
Madrigal Festival. We are delighted to report
that
Fortè competed against 30 other 4A
and 5A high schools from across the state and
was awarded Second Runner-Up. In
addition to the performance on Saturday
afternoon we made a stop at Georgetown High
School to perform for their choirs. This was
yet another experience where J. J. Pearce High
School was well-represented by the choral
program, and one that we are sure to remember
for years to come!

Girls Golf Article by Senior Captain Meredith
Trubitt
After a tedious Wednesday taking the
infamous TAKS test, the Pearce girl's golf team
could hardly wait for a day away from school to play
a round of golf. While the weather report for
Thursday said a high of 43 with an 80 percent chance
of rain by 9 am, the girls kept their positive
attitudes in check. Of course, like anything else,
optimism is easier in a heated suburban while
half-asleep. Even though most layered accordingly
for the forecasted weather, after stepping out of
the Suburban the team finally understood what it
must have felt like for their ancestors to hunt
mammoths during the Ice Age. The brittle cold swept
across our faces, and froze our cheeks into whatever
position they were in whether that was a smile, a
frown, or an expression somewhere in between, our
faces were immovable. Even those wearing golf gloves
could hardly feel their hands. Only the blessed few
with hand warmers had the luxury of feeling their
extremities. After warming-up (unfortunately that
means actually practicing, not sitting in front of a
heater) we sat inside awaiting our hole assignments.
Finally, after the loquacious coach in charge
explained the rules which we had all previously
read, we could finally start our adventure into the
tundra also referred to as Waterview Golf Course.
During the first couple of holes, admittedly the
cold was manageable. The layers kept us fairly warm,
and while the complaints ran rampant we had no idea
what misery laid ahead for us. If only we knew
perhaps we would have been more gracious for our
small blessing, and kept the complaints to a
minimum. But let's take a reality check: we're
teenage girls, all we do is complain. By the time we
started our third or fourth hole, the rain
commenced. Misery on a whole new level was finally
understood by all those on the course. As the rain
unceasingly persisted, the multiple layers each girl
was wearing became heavier and more drenched. And
with each drop came a higher risk for catching
pneumonia which could ruin senior exemptions (we
have to keep our priorities in order). Each girl
prayed the next golf cart coming by would be their
savior and cursed whoever decided to do a rain dance
on such a cold day. No sane person fantasizes about
taking a cold shower and then hitting a few golf
balls while standing wet in a walk-in freezer, but
that was what we were doing. It was pure madness
that Hamlet could not even imagine. Eventually, golf
carts ever so slowly inched to pick us up and return
us to the heated club house. As imaginary needles
poked at girl's extremities, warmth never was more
appreciated. The six holes that had been played were
then scored. The Pearce girl's had not a feeling of
regret from any of their bad shots on their six
holes. Their motto, blame it on the weather was
chanted by all present. In a wonderful surprise
though the Pearce girl's golf team shot just a few
over par and placed fourth giving new life to the
frozen team. So I suppose not too many complaints
can truly stem from such a frigid winter day in the
middle of March.

varsity
Pearce Boys Varsity Soccer battled till the end and
came home with a 1-0 win over Frisco Centennial
Friday night. Pearce dominated the first half but
only managed to convert once with a combination
effort between
Luke Joyner
and
Juan Bonigno.
They had several more scoring opportunities in the
second half but came up short. Centennial pressured
hard the last ten minutes of the game, but the
defense held strong and maintained the 1-0 lead.
Pearce is still in the playoff hunt and faces a
tough opponent next
Tuesday, March 11, at 7:15 pm against the Colony at
home. This is also Teacher Appreciation Night.
Senior Night is Monday, March 17th
at 6:00pm at HOME against Prosper. We know it's

The Pearce boys JV soccer team remains at the top of the district with their 1-0 win over Frisco's Centennial High School. It was a very hard fought game,
but a header by David Steele off of a corner kick in the first half enabled the Mustangs to pull ahead of the Titans. Once again, goalie Tyler Smith made an
amazing save in the second half to keep Centennial from tying the score and the defense enabled Pearce to bring home the victory. The JV boy's last HOME
GAME is Tuesday night, March 11th, against The Colony at 5:30. Then they play AT Little Elm on Friday March 14th at 5:30. Come to either or both
games to cheer your team on to VICTORY IN THE DISTRICT!!!.

The Girl's Varsity Soccer team won again the
Wakeland Wolverines 2 - 0 at home on Friday,
February 29th. Goals were scored by Senior
Stephanie Pritchett and Freshman Rosa Medina,
both assists by Senior Laura Flink. It was
an unexpected surprise for back-up keeper Medina
to score! Junior goal keeper Haley Newsom
kept Wakeland scoreless by saving the PK in the
first have of the game and the direct kick from just
outside the box in the last few minutes of the
game. Molly Hummel and Maddie Harper
turned in very strong performances against the
Wolverines.
On Friday, March 7th, the Varsity girls
celebrated Senior night honoring 9 strong performers
on the team - Jenny Engelson (#24), Kimberlee
Ernest (Captain, #3), Laura Flink (#16), Taylor
Gallagher (#15), Katie Hughes (#8), Stephanie
Pritchett (#13), Danielle Sizer (#17), Anne Stieg
(Captain, #6) and Chloe Whaley (#2). These ladies
have been a real asset to the team and have much to
be proud of for an excellent season. The winning
game was dedicated to their parents and former
classmate Kaitlin Seidel.
It truly was Senior night with Senior Danielle
Sizer scoring the first goal in the first minute
of the game, assisted by Senior Katie Hughes.
Going into halftime, Pearce had a 1-0 lead but in
the second half the Centennial Titans came out
strong. The second goal was scored by Senior
Laura Flink with assists by Senior Katie
Hughes and Senior Danielle Sizer. The
Lady Mustangs played to a 2-2 tie against Frisco
Centennial at the end of regulation play. In the
shoot-out, Junior goalkeeper Haley Newsom was
the star, shutting out the Titans. Senior Laura
Flink put in the winning penalty kick. The Lady
Mustangs are in in second place in the District with
3 games left. Keep winning!
