Pearce Excellence in Education
Fund
Fundraising for the 2007- 2008 school year for the
Pearce Excellence in Education Fund is off to a great
start. Thanks to the Pearce families and community
members who have already responded to the annual
solicitation letter from the Pearce Excellence in
Education Fund, or who gave after attending one of the
Fall information meetings. This years’ goal is
$65,000 and $37,000 has been raised to date.
Every dollar will be used to enhance the teaching and
learning environment at Pearce, to make sure our school
continues to be recognized both locally and nationally
for their academic programs and student success.
This
year we are striving for 100% participation from Pearce
families- no amount is too small! To remind families to
send in their checks, PEEF board members are making
calls to every Pearce family, answering questions about
the Fund, and encouraging participation. Even if you
lost your letter, you can send a check made out to PEEF
to: Pearce High School, 1600 N. Coit Rd. , Richardson,

The Legacy Brick Campaign ends this week. If you
want a brick for your state playoff football player,
your state competition band member, your 2008 grad,
or your otherwise wonderful student, teacher, Pearce
alum or coach this is it. You know you
won't remember to order during the school break so

MUSTANG BASKETBALL TIES SCHOOL RECORD!
Not since 1990 has a Mustang team recorded 9 wins
and no losses to start the district season! This
squad defeated Forney and West Mesquite with ease
last week to accomplish this feat. Nick Sellers
came off the bench and once again showed his scoring
ability pouring in 13 points as 2nd high scorer
against Forney. Chris Bowie stepped up
against West Mesquite to lead the team in scoring
with 18 points.
Congratulations to Bryan Parker named
Honorable Mentioned Player of the Week by the Dallas
Morning News. This solid team is catching the eye of
various basketball polls as they are ranked 6th in
the area and 15th in the state. The Mustangs
could make history Tuesday in Greenville and send
their record to 10-0.
HIGHLAND PARK COMES TO PEARCE! $5 HP
T-shirts on sale outside the cafeteria at lunch
every day this week. Don't miss this HUGE RIVALRY
Friday night and a chance to see the Mustangs
match up against the #6 team in the state. The 'Stangs
are looking for a repeat performance as the only
team in the district to beat the Scots.

you are getting a t-shirt, be sure to enter the
Reliable Chevrolet half time contest. Half time
Friday night will feature the Pacesetters then 3
lucky contestants will have the chance to each win

Lady Mustangs Move Up in District Play
varsity
The Lady Mustangs broke their third place district tie with Forney Tuesday night winning their 6th district game in a row. Playing on Forney turf, the Mustangs
were in the lead the entire game, scoring 13 points in the 1st, 14 in the 2nd, 4, in the 3rd and 13 in the 4th finishing 44 - 36. Madison Russell led the
scoring with 12 points, Corrie Forcier had 9, and Katie Hanes had 7 with the only 3 pointer of the game.
Friday night in the game of the season, the Lady Mustangs gave it their all, going bucket for bucket with the West Mesquite Wranglers. The Lady Mustangs led
both the 1st and 2nd quarter, leaving the court with 28 -27 on the scoreboard. Third quarter, they were down 2 at 42 - 40. A three point shot by Katie Hanes
late in the 4th tied the game 58 - 58 but the Wranglers had one more left, putting the ball in, with seconds left on the clock. The final score was 60 - 58.
Corrie Forcier had 15 points, Katie Hanes, 14, and Olivia Hulme had 13. Special thanks to the Pacesetters who performed at halftime.
junior varsity
JV Lady Mustangs had a winning week. On Tuesday, they defeated Forney 49-42 after being down the first three quarters. Kat Kimmell led the scoring with 16
points. KC Harris and Emily Fishman did a great job rebounding and playing defense to help secure the win.On Friday night, JV pounded the West Mesquite
Wranglers 41-12. Emma Tiedemann nailed 3 three point shots. MacKenzie Mueller had 10 points, Kat Kimmell 8 points and Sara Witcraft 6 points.
freshmen
The Freshmen Lady Mustangs finished their basketball season on a high note, defeating the Forney Jackrabbits 31-21. Brooke Johnston led the attack with
18 points, with Jordan Owens scoring 8. Congratulations to Coach Richard Blassingame and the freshmen Lady Mustangs on an awesome season!
Girls Varsity Soccer
The Lady Mustangs Varsity Soccer team is off to a
great start. The first District game was on
Thursday, January 17th and played at Frisco Memorial
Field. The Frisco High Fighting Raccoons played a
strong game, ending in a 1-1 tie. Sophomore
Taylor Mathews scored on an assist from
Kathryn Watson. The Raccoons finally put one in
with just one minute left in regulation play. With
the new District rules, games can no longer end in
tie so the Mustangs ended with a win the shoot-out.
Junior goalie Haley Newsom kept the Mustangs
on top blocking 2 attempted shots.
The second game of the season was played at the JJ
Pearce stadium on Tuesday night, January 21st. The
stadium was cold but we came home with a "hot" win.
Pearce delivered four goals - Sophomore Katherine
Watson (2), Senior Laura Flink and
Sophomore Gayle Ziegler to beat the Frisco
Liberty Red Hawks. We had 8 shots on goal and kept
the Red Hawks scoreless. A special thanks to the 4
man pep team that came out to cheer the girls on!
The ladies also played in the Berkner Pre-Season
tournament with 2 wins and a loss. Wins came against
Rockwall 1- 0 with a goal by Senior Laura Flink
and North Mesquite 1-0 with Sophomore Maddie
Harper scoring off a corner kick from Molly
Hummel. The Lady Mustangs lost to Sachse 2 - 1
where the Harper/Hummel had another corner
kick combo. The team did not play in the finals due
to player commitments for the weekend.
