Pearce Excellence in Education
Fund
Fundraising for the 2007- 2008 school year for the
Pearce Excellence in Education Fund is off to a great
start. Thanks to the Pearce families and community
members who have already responded to the annual
solicitation letter from the Pearce Excellence in
Education Fund, or who gave after attending one of the
Fall information meetings. This years’ goal is $65,000
and $30,000 has been raised to date. Every dollar will
be used to enhance the teaching and learning environment
at Pearce, to make sure our school continues to be
recognized both locally and nationally for their
academic programs and student success.
This year
we are striving for 100% participation from Pearce
families- no amount is too small! To remind families to
send in their checks, PEEF board members are making
calls to every Pearce family, answering questions about
the Fund, and encouraging participation. Even if you
lost your letter, you can send a check made out to PEEF
to: Pearce High School, 1600 N. Coit Rd. , Richardson,
TX 75080 – Attn PEEF.
When you
donate, don’t forget about matching funds- many
companies provide a match for employee contributions to
non-profit organizations. Click
Here for a partial list- ask your employer if you
are not sure if matching funds are available.
Thanks to those Pearce supporters who have donated to
the fund as of 1-11-08:

MIGHTY MUSTANG BAND MEMBERS MAKE ALL-STATE!
The following students were named to the Texas
All-State Band:
Haley Bates, Clarinet, Jesus Bermeo, Alto
Saxophone, Greg Lyle, Trumpet, Megan Bommarito,
French Horn
Peter Farago, Percussion, Daniel Silverman,
Percussion
These students had to complete a long and
arduous process which included learning three
college-level etudes and going through three
sets of auditions, competing against several
thousand other students to win these positions.
This is the highest level that a student
musician can reach in the State of Texas.
Congratulations to these fine students and their
teachers!
Choir members make all-state choir!
Congratulations to five Pearce Choir students
for making the Texas Music Educators All-State
Choir: Through rigorous competition, Lauren
Bull and Shelby Button garnered a place in the
All-State Women's Choir with Amy Lanford as an
alternate. Zach Sutton earned a place in the
All-State Men's Choir and Daniel Shnider was
selected for the All-State Mixed Choir. These
students started in a field of over 18,000
students and are among the top 300 singers in
the state putting them in the top 1% of students
in the competition. The All-State Choir
students will perform with their groups at the
TMEA convention this February.

JJ Pearce Orchestra Members Perform at the House
of Blues
Eight members of the JJ Pearce Orchestra joined
the rock group Sister Hazel at the House of
Blues on Sunday, December 9th. The students
performed Christmas classics as well as
originally composed pieces from the Sister Hazel
12 Days of Christmas Tour album. Drummer, Mark Trojanowksi, of Sister Hazel spearheaded the
involvement of high school orchestras and was
responsible for selecting local groups to
participate in the concert. The Sister Hazel
band members agreed that the students'
performance in the concert enriched their
program tremendously.
Pearce Orchestra Director, Melissa Livings,
coordinated the musical direction and worked
with the students in multiple rehearsals leading
up to the concert. Still, the students only had
one opportunity to rehearse once with the band
just a few hours before show time! Performing
with a live band was a great learning experience
and was unique, once-in-a-lifetime, opportunity
for the orchestra students.
After a behind-the-scenes tour of the concert
hall the students were whisked away to their own
"green room" to prepare for the concert. The
evening was topped off with personal autographs
and a photo session with the band members. They
were treated like celebrities and it was a very
exciting evening for the young orchestra
performers.

EXTENDED BY POPULAR DEMAND -- THERE IS STILL TIME TO
ORDER YOUR BRICK!!!!!

You have heard all about it -- its been in the Enews, on the marquee, in the
Dallas Morning News,
and announcements have been made at basketball
games, at PTA, at Exchange Club and many other
places -- BUT YOU DIDN'T MISS OUT YET!!
The Legacy Brick Campaign has been extended to
January 30th for this school year. If you want a
brick for your state playoff football player, your
state competition band member, your 2008 grad, or
your otherwise wonderful student, teacher, Pearce
alum or coach this is it. You know you
won't remember to order during the school break so
get out your checkbook and fill out your
order form NOW.
Details -- It is $50 for each brick ordered.
You pick your logo and what the brick says. Many
families are ordering for all their Pearce students
at once -- past, present and future to get their
bricks together in this first section opened. You
need a
separate order form for each brick ordered. Specify
if you want certain bricks together. The form
explains where to send it and answers most
questions. You will not want your student left out
when the new plaza is dedicated next spring. The Chairmen of the Brick Campaign are Roni and Don
Briggs. Questions
please contact Sally Field at (972) 387-1914.

08 Diamond Darlings. All Juniors and Seniors are
eligible. We will have lots of fun watching our
Mustangs PLAY BALL!
for an application or pick one up at the Pearce
Front desk. Please return it by January 25th to the
Pearce Front Desk or Mrs. Roni Briggs.
BOYS BASKETBALL KEEPS THE PRESSURE ON!
The
Mustangs came out strong against an athletic Terrell
team and stifling defense contained the areas
leading 3-point shooter to clinch the win. Papi
Kaba hit key free throws down the stretch to put the
game out of reach as the Stangs held on to a 59-55
victory.
On
Friday, the Mustangs had no trouble putting
away Rockwall Heath 73-24 in front of a packed
house. The Stangs remain the ONLY UNDEFEATED TEAM
in District 10-4A with a 6-0 record and have won 10
out of their last 11 games. Mark your calendars
for the next home game - Fan Appreciation Night on
Tues. Jan. 22 against Forney. Stampede will perform
and 6 Pearce students will try to sink a half court
shot to win a year's supply of Raising Cane's.
Matt
Weir, Connor O'Reilly, Amy Leiser, David Tatum,
Hunter Hock and Molly Cain are the lucky
contestants.
Due
to finals there is no game on Tuesday but the team
returns to action on Friday traveling to Mesquite
Poteet for a 7:30 tip off.

Dishon Hughes goes up for the tip off against
Greenville as Bryan Parker looks on.
Varsity Lady Mustangs Score Two Wins on the Road
Earlier in the week the Lady Mustangs traveled to Terrell for a big win over the Tigers, 57-40. Corrie Forcier led the scoring with 20 points,
Katie Hanes 11 and Madison Russell 8. Friday night the Lady Mustangs had a rousing victory over the state's 7th-ranked 4A team,
Rockwall Heath. Down 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, they came back to score 13 points to the Hawks 5 in the second quarter,
leaving the court at halftime down 2, 26-24. In the third quarter Pearce pulled ahead for the first time 29-28 with 2 minutes left. Exceptional
play in the fourth quarter resulted in the Lady Mustangs winning the game 45-40. Corrie Forcier had 16 points, Alaska Corey Mulder 9
points and Olivia Hulme 7 points.
JV defeated the Terrell Tigers on Tuesday, 43-37. Emma Tiedemann had another great game with 17 points, MacKenzie Mueller 6 points.
Struggling with fouls and shooting, the JV Lady Mustangs were defeated by the Rockwall Hawks 43-37. Victoria Kennedy had 6 points
and Kat Kimmell had 5.
After finals are over, come out and support your Lady Mustangs as they take on the Mesquite Poteet Pirates at home Friday night,
January 18th at 6:00pm and 7:30pm.
