OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

February 7, 2008

Dear RISD Parents,

If your student participates or is planning to participate in high school extracurricular activities this spring, you should have received a copy of the updated district guidelines relating to the use of drugs and/or alcohol and the consequences in place for violation of these guidelines. These guidelines were developed after extensive research and discussion with students, teachers, administrators, and the district's Board of Trustees to ensure that all extracurricular activities are under the same guidelines for alcohol and illegal drug activities. We take the safety of our students very seriously, and want each of them to understand that use of either alcohol or drugs is not only illegal and unhealthy, but will have consequences related to their participation in all high school extracurricular activities. Both you and your student should sign the Extracurricular Activity Agreement Form and return it to the sponsor of the activity. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that your student has a safe, alcohol and drug free high school experience. If you have questions about these guidelines, please contact the sponsor or coach of the activity,

your campus principal, or RISD’s Student Services Department. You can view the guidelines here.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

MUSTANG BASKETBALL IS DEFINITELY 'PLAYING FOR KEEPS'
For the second year in a row, the Mustangs are headed to the playoffs. With a win this Tuesday, the team will be DISTRICT CHAMPS tied with Highland Park at
13-1. The 'Stangs rebounded from the emotionally draining final minute loss to HP to beat a talented Terrell team.  The areas leading 3-point scorer dropped in 30
points but it wasn't enough to contain these amazing Mustangs.  Once again, balanced scoring and low turnovers pushed the team to a 66-62 win.  Bryan Parker
14, Papi Kaba 13, Chris Bowie 13 and Trevoy Dunn 12 kept Terrell guessing as to who would finish the play.  The game was tied after the 3rd quarter and remained
a close battle but Dishon Hughes, Chris Bowie and Trevoy Dunn hit key free throws down the stretch and Sammy McKee put the game out of reach with 2 clutch
free throws with seconds remaining.
Rockwall-Health gave Pearce no trouble going down 79 to 64 on Friday to send the Mustangs into the last district game in a first place tie with HP.
On Tuesday, Mesquite Poteet will be the last home game of the season and will feature the Pacesetters and the Step Team performing at half time. The SENIOR
CEREMONY will take place at 7:00 BEFORE the game.

LADY MUSTANGS HEADED FOR PLAYOFFS
They did it!  The Lady Mustangs have made the playoffs for only the 2nd time in almost 15 years and for only the 5th time in the history of Pearce.  Easily
defeating the Terrell Tigers 64 – 40 Tuesday night, the Lady Mustangs are on their way.  Tuesday was an extra special night as the 3 graduating seniors were
honored before the varsity game.  Playing their last season with the Lady Mustangs are Katie Hanes, Olivia Hulme, and Madison Russell.  They gave it their
all throughout the season and without them, the playoffs would not become a reality.  The three leading scorers in Tuesday night’s game were Haley Marstella
with 13, Corrie Forcier with 12, and Olvia Hulme with 9.  Special thanks to the Mustang Stampede and Stomp who both performed at halftime.    Please come out to
cheer as the Lady Mustangs take on McKinney Boyd  in their first playoff game Monday night at Allen High School at 7pm.

Mueller had 9 points, Sara Witcraft had 6 points and Emma Tiedemann had 6 points. The JV Lady Mustangs had a great season finishing 17-8 overall and 11-3
in district. Way to go Lady Mustangs and Coach Rush!!

PEARCE BOYS SOCCER TEAMS WIN AGAIN!!!
The Pearce JV remains undefeated in district play with a win against The Colony on Friday night.  The Mustangs came out strong in the first half with several
shots on goal, while goalie Tyler Smith and the defense kept the Cougars scoreless.  With just a few minutes left in the half, Jonathan Torres scored
the first Mustang goal.  Pearce kept the pressure on in the second half, with a goal by Denny Garcia.  The Cougars pulled within one point when they scored a
goal midway through the second half bringing the score to 2-1 and were looking to tie the score when Goalie Jordan Kincheloe made an amazing save to dash their
hopes.  The Mustangs never backed off and brought home a 3-1 victory with a final goal by Kevin Machado.  Don't miss a chance to see these boys in action!!
The next HOME game is Tuesday, Feb. 12th against Little Elm at 5:30.

Pearce Boys Varsity Soccer improved their district record to 4-2 with an exciting win over the Colony Friday evening.  After a scoreless first half, the
Colony was the first to put points on the board midway through the second half. Pearce countered with a score shortly thereafter from Captain Keegan Smith, and
the game ended in a 1-1 tie.  Forced into overtime, goalkeeper Robbie Ramirez blocked the first attempt from the Colony, while Scott Luedtke gave Pearce a one
goal advantage.  Keegan Smith, Reece Markman, and Juan Aguirre were all successful in scoring, while the Colony capitalized on only one goal, ending the
game before Justin Butler had to shoot.  Great job, Mustangs!  Come support Boys Soccer Tuesday at 7:15 pm as we take on Little Elm at home.

The JV and Varsity teams play on Tuesday and Friday nights through March.  The next game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, at HOME against Little Elm.  JV
Plays at 5:30 and Varsity at 7:15.  Come cheer the teams on!

girls soccer news
varsity
The Lady Mustangs Varsity soccer team took on the cold, wind and the Frisco Centennial Titans at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco on Tuesday.  There
was an unexpected intermission to start the second half, when the stadium lights went out during play.  After a 15 minute delay, the lights came on
and so did Pearce's second half scoring push.  Laura Flink scored off an assist by Kathryn Watson and, shortly after, Taylor Mathews converted on a
free kick to seal the 2-0 win.

The Lady Mustangs were back home on Friday night to host last year's 4A State champs, The Colony Cougars.  It was another scoreless first half,
with a fairly balanced attack by both teams.  The second half, however, belonged to the Cougars, who were able to score off two free kicks not far
outside the Mustangs penalty area.  The Mustangs were unable to make a comeback and lost for only the first time in two years in district play,
0-2.

The Lady Mustangs will get back on the winning track this week when they go on the road on Tuesday against Little Elm and are home on Friday
against Prosper.  GO MUSTANGS!

 Laura Flink Taylor Mathews

jv

Tuesday's game found our Lady Mustangs at Pizza Hut Park to meet Frisco Centennial. Lightning forced a game delay and biting gale force winds played havoc with the ball, but Pearce came to play! The first score started with a pass from Kim Retzsch to Sydney Robertson who sent it in to Hannah Tessaro for a beautiful finish. Centennial couldn't mount a steady attack, thanks to the defensive might of the Lady Mustangs, led by Meagan Stewart and keeper Rosa Medina. Their hopes were dashed by the second Lady Mustang score on a cross from Karli Porter to Brooke Johnston who powered it in, with Hannah Tessaro giving an extra kick past the keeper. A 2-0 win for our Lady Mustangs!

GOAL...GOAL...GOAL...GOAL...GOAL - the word of the night for Friday's match against The Colony. Our Lady Mustangs wasted no time welcoming The Colony to their home pitch with an opening combination from Brooke Johnston to Karli Porter to Sheina Tolmas. Hannah Tessaro bends a gorgeous corner in for the second score of the game. Keeper Molly Cain holds off the return attack, along with the excellent play of defenders Sarah Piske, Shelby Redcorn and Meagan Stewart. Midfielders Kim Retzsch, Veronica Pippard and Becca Solitare's zinging passes move the ball upfield and Brooke Johnston feeds Sydney Robertson who scores the third goal of the game. The second half finds Robertson as keeper with outstanding defensive play by Veronica Pippard, whose cross to Sheina Tolmas resulted in Tolmas' second goal of the game. The final goal of the game is a blast from the foot of Brooke Johnston off a pass by Molly Cain. This 5-0 victory is a total team effort with exceptional effort by each Lady Mustang - congratulations!
