zero tolerance policy on bullying

In a recent announcement, the Peer Helpers addressed the subject of Bullying:

Bullying is pushing, shoving, kicking or otherwise physically attacking another person.

Bulling is purposely excluding or ostracizing someone.

Bullying is spreading rumors or gossiping.

Bullying is using words or actions to intimidate someone.

Bullying is teasing another person about his or her body, intelligence, race, religion, or any other characteristic that upsets the person.

Bullying is name-calling.

Bullying is making threatening phone calls of emails.

Bullying is posting cruel pictures or messages about someone online.

Bullying is any aggressive, intentional behavior meant to hurt or humiliate someone else.  Bullying involves an imbalance of power and strength.

PEARCE HIGH SCHOOL HAS A STRICT ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ON BULLYING.

If a student has been victimized by a bully or finds himself in a bullying relationship, the student has several options available.  First, the student can talk to a teacher, vice-principal, or counselor.  Second, the student can talk to a Peer Helper about the situation.  He may even want to make a referral for a Peer Mediation.  The student can attend TOPS which meets during lunch periods on Wednesday, 7th period and after school on Tuesday.

What a student never has to do is suffer in quiet, alone and hopeless.

Pearce Excellence in Education Fund

Fundraising for the 2007- 2008 school year for the Pearce Excellence in Education Fund is off to a great start. Thanks to the Pearce families and

community members who have already responded to the annual solicitation letter from the Pearce Excellence in Education Fund, or who gave after

attending one of the Fall information meetings.   This years’ goal is $65,000 and $43,000 has been raised to date. Every dollar will be used to

enhance the teaching and learning environment at Pearce, to make sure our school continues to be recognized both locally and nationally for their academic programs and student success.

This year we are striving for 100% participation from Pearce families- no amount is too small!  To remind families to send in their checks, PEEF board

members are making calls to every Pearce family, answering questions about the Fund, and encouraging participation.   Even if you lost your letter, you

can send a check made out to PEEF to:  Pearce High School,  1600 N. Coit Rd. , Richardson, TX 75080 – Attn PEEF.

When you donate, don’t forget about matching funds- many companies provide a match for employee contributions to non-profit organizations.

MUSTANGS ARE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!

varsity basketball

The win over Mesquite Poteet sealed the deal to officially bring the Mustangs a District Championship - the first in 10 years!  It was a sweet ending for the 9 seniors recognized that night who played for the last time in Mustang gym.  Many of these guys have been teammates since 6th grade.  Trevoy Dunn, Chris Bennett, Sammy McKee, Nick Sellers, Dishon Hughes, Dillon Taylor, Luke Joyner, Bryan Parker and Papi Kaba escorted their parents to center court for individual recognition of their high school accomplishments.  The game was well in hand by half-time as Bryan Parker led the team with 18 points.

The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 24-8 overall record and 13-1 in district. With tying records, the Mustangs won the coin flip with Highland Park and will enter the playoffs as the first seed, giving them a first-round bye.  After a warm-up game against Paris last Saturday, the team will be ready to take on Lindale or Jacksonville on either Thursday or Friday in the Area Finals.  Check the Dallas Morning News on Wednesday for exact time and location. $5 District Champ/Playoff shirts on sale!  During lunch on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, support your championship Mustangs and purchase a $5 t-shirt outside the cafeteria.

Congratulation to the winners of the Reliable Chevrolet 3 point contest - Drew Albert and Amber Williams.

Tuesday's February 12th game against the Little Elm Lobos is best summed up by - GOALFEST!! Our JV Lady Mustangs scored 8 unanswered goals in a cold, windy match in Denton county. Hannah Tessaro set the tone for the evening, striking first off a cross by Karli Porter. Next came a shot by Sydney Robertson off a pass from Brooke Johnston. A third goal followed just over a minute later by Brooke Johnston from Hannah Tessaro's pass. Molly Cain added the fourth goal on a stunning
kick backward into the corner. A minute later Molly scored her second goal of the evening off a pass from Sarah Rivers. With 3:30 left in the first half, Brooke Johnston sent a ball straight to the waiting feet of Sydney Robertson who delivered for her second goal of the evening. Ending the first half with her second goal of the evening was Brooke Johnston who took on defenders from the midfield, blowing by them to drive in for the score. The second half saw a scramble of position changes as Coach DeArmond gave players opportunities for new experiences with keeper Rosa Medina becoming a field player. Rosa wasted no time on the pitch and took a pass from Paloma Garcia in for the 8th score of the evening!

McKinney Boyd came to play on Friday evening, fielding a physical, aggressive team. Our Lady Mustangs were up for the challenge, matching shots, making saves and steals, fighting to a 0-0 tie. Outstanding defensive effort was made by Hayley Kerr and Meagan Stewart, with midfielders Veronica Pippard, Hannah Tessaro, Karli Porter and Brooke Johnston keeping the ball upfield for Pearce. Great shots were made by Molly Cain, with a heart-stopping shot from Sheina Tolmas that went just wide of the goal in the final minute. Great effort by Sarah Rivers, Kim Retzsch, Shelby Redcorn, Kaitlyn Fletcher, Becca Solitare and Rosa Medina as our Lady Mustangs remain undefeated!

varsity

The Lady Mustangs Varsity soccer team was back on the winning track again when they took on the Little Elm Lady Lobos in Little Elm on Tuesday.  In

the first half, off an assist from Stephanie Pritchett and Gayle Ziegler, Sophomore Kathryn Watson got her toe on a perfectly placed ball that the Little Elm keeper could not reach which made it into the goal for the first score. In the second half, it was an all-out Lady Mustangs offensive.  Great ball movement by Mustangs defenders and midfielders, including Anne Stieg, Molly Hummel and Stephanie Pritchett, kept the ball up around the attacking third for the remainder of the game. Sophmore Taylor Mathews scored twice with hard strikes off assists by Kathryn Watson and Hayley Kerr. Gayle Ziegler also created several other scoring opportunities with well-placed corner kicks.  In the end, despite the flurry of activity around the Little Elm goal, it was still another Lady Mustangs win by a score of 3-0.
