Important information about the
Cafeteria
Your school cafeteria will go
“Cashless”
next year. What does this mean to you?
Faster service when you go through
any serving line in the cafeteria or Corral. This
will allow students more time to eat lunch and visit
with their friends.
How does it work?
Every student who purchases items in the school
cafeteria will deposit money into their accounts
prior to going to lunch.
Students will scan their ID cards at the registers
and will not have to give money to the cashier at
that time.
How do students
deposit money into their accounts?
Parents may pay on line at
www.paypams.com
Students may bring cash or a check to the cafeteria
manager until 10:00 a.m. every morning.
Parents or students may also pre-pay at registration
in August.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE MONEY IN THEIR ACCOUNTS TO
PURCHASE ITEMS IN THE CAFETERIA OR CORRAL. IT DOES
NOT MATTER WHAT LINE YOU GO THROUGH. THERE WILL BE
NO MONEY EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE CASHIERS AND STUDENTS
DURING MEAL SERVICE.
Thank you,

We hope everyone had fun at the Choir
Dunking booth at the Kick-Off Cook-Out.
Special thanks go to Jayna Pritchard,
Deidra Rucker, Randy, Robertson, and Michael
Lysinger for making the booth a
splashing success. These four endured $360
worth of dunks and added some cool fun times
at the PABC annual event. Choir is
sincerely appreciative to the PABC for
allowing us to have the booth as a
fundraiser for our Italy tour.
Did you know that Choir Students are selling
Passbooks? Just let any choir student know
if you want one. For $20 you can save money
at favorite restaurants, events, and travel
for the next year.
And
now we are on to the next opportunity for
pushing our choristers a little closer to
Italy- a taste test on Thursday
September 18.
This will be similar to other taste tests we
have conducted at Pearce and we can use the
community help in making our goals. You
spend about 40 minutes (maximum) tasting
salty snacks and answering questions
prompted by a computer. It is fun and
simple. The times throughout the day are:
10:50AM,11:25AM, 12:00PM, 12:40PM, 2:30PM,
3:05PM, 3:40PM, 4:20PM. E-mail
jill.button@tx.rr.com to sign up
or get any questions answered. We
appreciate your willingness and time to help
us with our tour expenses.
Coming soon: Taste Test on September 18th,
Golf Tournament
and on line auction, and Passbooks available
the first week of school.

Pearce Takes Consolation Championship
The Mustangs got the season started with the
Highland Park-Plano West 16 Team Kick Off
Tournament. After a tough opening round 10-9 loss to
San Angelo Central High, the Mustangs went onto
capture the Consolation Championship going 3-1 in
the tournament beating Arlington Martin, Amarillo
High and Coppell. The team had strong performances
from its returning veterans and some very nice
outings by several freshman.
Last Friday, the Mustangs took on cross town rival
Richardson HS and blanked the Eagles 19-0
The team has some very high goals set for the year,
namely an appearance in Austin at the Team
Championships in November.

The St. Thomas Community Garden

…growing food to
fight hunger where we live.
The first Millennium Development Goal set
forth by the United Nations in 2000 was to eradicate
extreme poverty and hunger wherever they occur.
In May 2007, a group of parishioners at
the Episcopal Church of St. Thomas the Apostle looked at
the vacant lot next to their church and wondered how
they could put it to better use. They wondered if they
could do something for the community in which they
lived. Over the course of many months they worked to
turn the vacant lot next to their church into a
community garden aimed at providing fresh, nutritious
food to local food pantries.
They now have two large plots dedicated
to growing food for North Dallas Shared Ministries and
the Resource Center of Dallas. Gardeners in 16 private
plots are growing food for themselves with a promise to
donate 10 percent of their personal crops to the food
pantries too.
The first crop was planted
in the spring of 2008 and over the course of
the summer they have
harvested over 2000 lbs of fresh greens and vegetables
for the food pantries. One hundred sweet
potato plants have already been planted for fall and
more fall crops will be planted soon.
Community gardening not only provides
fresh food to the community but it also: 1)brings people
together, 2)improves community interactions, 3)reduces
crime and 4)beautifies the landscape.
It’s also a lot of work!
We need volunteer groups to donate an
occasional Saturday morning to help weed and work the
garden. It’s a very rewarding experience and a great
way to donate your time to benefit the community in
which we live.
