Important information about the
Cafeteria
Your school cafeteria will go
“Cashless”
next year. What does this mean to you?
Faster service when you go through
any serving line in the cafeteria or Corral. This
will allow students more time to eat lunch and visit
with their friends.
How does it work?
Every student who purchases items in the school
cafeteria will deposit money into their accounts
prior to going to lunch.
Students will scan their ID cards at the registers
and will not have to give money to the cashier at
that time.
How do students
deposit money into their accounts?
Parents may pay on line at
www.paypams.com
Students may bring cash or a check to the cafeteria
manager until 10:00 a.m. every morning.
Parents or students may also pre-pay at registration
in August.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE MONEY IN THEIR ACCOUNTS TO
PURCHASE ITEMS IN THE CAFETERIA OR CORRAL. IT DOES
NOT MATTER WHAT LINE YOU GO THROUGH. THERE WILL BE
NO MONEY EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE CASHIERS AND STUDENTS
DURING MEAL SERVICE.
Thank you,
The
Child Nutrition Department

Park-Plano West Tennis Classic. 16 of the best teams in the state came to North Texas to participate in the annual tournament.
The Mustangs got the season rolling in Friday's morning session with a tough 9-10 loss to San Angelo Central. The afternoon match up saw Pearce strap it on
Arlington Martin 18-1. Day 2 action continued against Amarillo High on Saturday at Pearce HS.
This years team, led by Coach Jim Morrison and Coach Sammi Gunter, has a very balanced mix of boys and girls with help from Senior to Freshmen.
The JV will be at home Thursday, 8/28, 4 pm against Frisco Centennial. The Varsity will be in action this week against city rival Richardson HS at
Richardson, 8/29, 4 pm. Go Mustangs!

Our school will get the recognition it
deserves!
Simply go to
the PTA website at
www.jjpearcepta.org
and click on 'Volunteer Hours'. You can get to this
website quickly from the link at the top of this
enewsletter. OR email your name, the dates and hours you
worked, and the activity to one of the email addresses
below.
Volunteer Hours include attending meetings, baking, and
helping with any school event—anything that you or your
student
does
for Pearce that does not result in a grade. Always
include 15 minutes driving time to and from school—and
keep track
of
the time you spend running errands on behalf of a school
event. You may record your hours in a combined total
and enter
a
general description of your activities.
If
you signed in at the event, those hours have already
been submitted and should not be duplicated.

The St. Thomas Community Garden

…growing food to
fight hunger where we live.
The first Millennium Development Goal set
forth by the United Nations in 2000 was to eradicate
extreme poverty and hunger wherever they occur.
In May 2007, a group of parishioners at
the Episcopal Church of St. Thomas the Apostle looked at
the vacant lot next to their church and wondered how
they could put it to better use. They wondered if they
could do something for the community in which they
lived. Over the course of many months they worked to
turn the vacant lot next to their church into a
community garden aimed at providing fresh, nutritious
food to local food pantries.
They now have two large plots dedicated
to growing food for North Dallas Shared Ministries and
the Resource Center of Dallas. Gardeners in 16 private
plots are growing food for themselves with a promise to
donate 10 percent of their personal crops to the food
pantries too.
The first crop was planted
in the spring of 2008 and over the course of
the summer they have
harvested over 2000 lbs of fresh greens and vegetables
for the food pantries. One hundred sweet
potato plants have already been planted for fall and
more fall crops will be planted soon.
Community gardening not only provides
fresh food to the community but it also: 1)brings people
together, 2)improves community interactions, 3)reduces
crime and 4)beautifies the landscape.
It’s also a lot of work!
We need volunteer groups to donate an
occasional Saturday morning to help weed and work the
garden. It’s a very rewarding experience and a great
way to donate your time to benefit the community in
which we live.
For more information visit:
http://www.thedoubter.org/garden.html.

Neighborsgo editors are planning an online live blog
.....
the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 25.
The blog will appear on
dallasnews.com home page all day, under the
official address,
neighborsgoblog.dallasnews.com. We are asking for parents to send in their
first day of school observations and experiences, as
well as photos, that we can post to the blog. All
Richardson ISD parents or teachers can send their
experiences and photos directly to
mmacesich@dallasnews.com.
The sooner folks send in material on
Monday – 50 to 100 words will be plenty for each item –
the more likely their experiences will get on the blog.
After the live blog, the experiences and
photos will be published in the Richardson/Far North
Dallas neighborsgo print edition on Saturday, Aug. 30.
All submissions must be received on Aug. 25 to make this
print edition. Richardson ISD PTAs always have been
strong contributors to neighborsgo, something that is
anticipated again this school year. This is just the
start of providing readers with the best possible
community news. It is hoped that RISD will continue to
lead the way among neighborsgo sections in generating
community news content.
