pearce winterguard
ranked 13th in the nation
The J.J. Pearce High School Winterguard had a
great weekend, taking home first place at
one contest and stepping into the national
spotlight at another. Friday night the
Winterguard, directed by Renee Cantrell and
Diunte White, received 1st place at the Lamar
HS Contest in Arlington . Less than 12 hours
later, the students performed again at the WGI
International Dallas Regional, held at South
Grand Prairie High School . Because of the
excessive number of units competing in this
contest, 15 were chosen to perform again in a
Finals Competition Saturday night. J.J. Pearce
was one of the units selected and at the end of
the night, they received 5th place. They
beat most of the Metroplex schools, falling
short of only two units from the Dallas/Fort
Worth Area.
The exciting news came on Monday morning, when
websites devoted to comparing scores from WGI
Regionals around the country came out with their
National Rankings. The
J.J. Pearce
Winterguard is ranked 13th in the entire country,
an accomplishment without precedence for this
organization. This ranking is out of the 212
schools in the country proficient enough to
perform at a WGI Regional; at least 4 times that
number of groups are not at this level yet. The
website you can see for yourself is
http://www.guardbuzz.com/sa.html.
Scroll to the bottom ranking.
The directors want to thank all the parents,
colleagues, administration and of course
students that made this success possible.
There are 6 weeks left in this competitive
season and the schedule includes another WGI
Regional in Houston on March 8th and State
Championships in South Grand Prairie on April
5th.

Pearce Baseball Hits the
Diamond for 08 Season
Mustang Baseball took the field for
the home opener Tuesday 26th against Justin
Northwest we started out with a win versus a tough
5a team. Our current record is 4 & 2. Come out and
cheer on your Mustangs as they begin another
exciting season in the toughest baseball district in
Texas, district 10-4A. Lead by its eight seniors
the team is ready for the challenge of returning to
the playoffs. We have 9 home games and our field
looks great so come out and support the team. We
now have a brand new concessions and restroom
facility to add to your viewing enjoyment.
Varsity and JV games are Tuesday and Friday
nights, so check out the baseball website for
locations and times. PLAY BALL! http://www.pearcebaseball.com/
GREAT SEASON FOR MUSTANG BASKETBALL!
The Mustangs gave it all they had but fell short
against the height of Whitehouse in the Regional
Quarterfinals. Down by just 4 at half time, Pearce
kept it close until the 4th quarter. Turnovers
became costly and Whitehouse dashed the Mustangs
hopes of moving into the next round.
This mostly senior team has had a terrific season.
Many school records were tied or broken. A
13-1 district record ties a school record
- culminating in a District Championship. Back to
back Regional Quarterfinal appearances has never
happened at Pearce. Many individual and team records
were established during this historic season.
Coach Johnson and his coaching staff deserve
accolades for the great job they have done with this
team. Finally, a big thank you to all the
fans that made this season so special. We had
outstanding support and crowds at all the games and
it made a real impact on the team. Congratulations
2007-2008 MUSTANG BASKETBALL!
boys soccer
Pearce Boys Varsity Soccer won a 3-2
heart-stopper Tuesday night at Highland Park.
Highland Park was the first to score early in the
first half. Pearce responded with a goal from
Keegan Smith, and later in the first half,
Juan Bonigno scored another goal to end the half
with a 2-1 lead. Midway through the second half,
Keegan Smith connected on a header to bring the
lead to 3-1. Late in the second half, Highland Park
pulled within one goal on the penalty kick. Pearce
defenders Justin Butler, Scott Luetdke, Adolphus
Franzak, and goalkeeper Robbie Ramirez held
strong the remainder of the game and maintained the
3-2 lead to keep them a top contender in the
district.
On Friday night Pearce Boys Varsity
Soccer maintained its tie for second place in
district with a 2-0 win over Frisco Wakeland.
Reece Markman put points on the board first, and
Taylor Pierce followed close behind with a
second goal. The Pearce defense consisting of
Justin Butler, Scott Luedtke, Adolphus
Franzak, Kyle Poupart, and goalkeeper David
Rehfuss, combined to earn the shutout. Pearce
faces an important match at Centennial next
Friday, March 7, at 7:15 p.m.

out the scoring with the 4th goal.
On Tuesday, February 26th we beat the Highland Park
Scots 4 - 1 with Sophomore Kathryn Watson
getting 3 goals - assists by Taylor Mathews,
Gayle Ziegler and Laura Flink. Senior

Gayle Ziegler and Kathryn Watson.

JV LADY
MUSTANGS STILL UNDEFEATED!
The Highland Park Scots came to the
Pearce home pitch on Tuesday and gave our Lady
Mustangs quite a game! Both teams fielded a strong
defense, creating difficulty for either team to get
inside the 18. It took a corner kick from Brooke
Johnston, who bent it in beautifully, to score
and get the Lady Mustangs on the board. The 1-0
score lasted until the final seconds of the game,
when Hannah Tessaro sent a ball to Brooke
Johnston whose power shot hit the post and
landed in front of sure-footed Becca Solitaire,
who sent the fans in a frenzy with her finish into
the net!
Friday night found our Lady Mustangs in Frisco at
the Wakeland Wolverine stadium. The Wolverines were
held scoreless due to outstanding play by first-half
keeper Sydney Robertson, sweeper Meagan
Stewart, and an awesome save by second-half
keeper Sheina Tolmas. The game was scoreless
through the first 60 minutes of the game until a
header by Brooke Johnston sent the ball to
Veronica Pippard, who scored the only goal of
the evening for either team, a well-placed shot that
sailed past the Frisco keeper.

news for senior
parents
regressive dinner planning meeting this week
We apologize for the short notice to students last
Wednesday, but we were forced to reschedule the
original meeting because of a scheduling conflict.
An announcement was made, but apparently, not
everyone heard, and we are very sorry for the
confusion. The new meeting time is this Thursday,
March 6 at 7:30pm in the Library. Parents
need to plan to attend and volunteer homes and food
for this fun event. Seniors, you need to get your
group together. This a a fund-raiser for your prom.
Tickets are $40 per couple or $20 per individual in
each group.
casino party information
We
need your help to insure the success of the
“Casino Party”, the senior class’ after graduation
party, on June 7. Our goal is to create an event
that every senior will attend. The key to achieving
that goal is to have a lot of prizes! At least one
prize is guaranteed for each graduate. Students play
casino games to win chips and then trade the chips
for prizes. Some of the bigger items are used as
raffle prizes during the course of the night.
If
you personally, or through your business, can donate
a prize or obtain a significant discount, please
contact one of us. Here are some suggestions for
the types of prizes that we need: Gift certificates
or gift cards, Radios/TVs/Cameras, Concert Tickets,
Computers/Accessories, Sports Equipment, Electronic
Items, Dorm Room Necessities, Sporting Event
Tickets, Car Accessories, Prepaid Debit Cards, Small
Appliances, Luggage, Cash, Desk Items, Mall Money
such as "Galleria Gold".
If a
senior parent donates a door prize with a retail
value of at least $25.00, his/her senior will
receive an extra 5,000 chips to use that evening!
For donations of greater value, even more chips will
be paid.
Thanks so much for your help! Please call us if you
have any questions about anything to do with the
Casino Party. Remember this is a
parent-sponsored event only for Pearce 2008
graduates. This is not a date event, and is
organized to provide our seniors with a safe, fun
celebration.
