Email Update for December 3, 2007

JJ Pearce Recognized

by US News and World Reports

as a Top Public High School

US News and World Reports announced their list of the top U.S.

public high schools today.  100 schools were rated Gold, 405 Silver,

and 1,086 Bronze.  J.J. Pearce High School was named

a Silver medal school, one of only 5 in Dallas.

In Texas, 10 schools were named Gold

and 29 named Silver.

A three-step process determined the best high schools. The first two steps

ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using state proficiency standards as the measuring benchmarks. For those schools that made it past

the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools

prepared students for college-level work utilizing AP exam results.

J.J. Pearce High School was also featured in this month's issue

of Texas Monthly as one of the Top High Schools in Texas

by the Just for the Kids organization. Pearce is also a Texas

"Recognized High School" one of only two Class 4A or 5A high schools

to receive this designation in the Metroplex.

Congratuations to Principal Karen Neal, her administrative staff,

the J.J. Pearce faculty, staff and students.  These prestigious awards

are a tribute to the "Tradition of Excellence" that defines Pearce High School.

choir collecting new toys for patrick's parade of toys

Started last year by Pearce alum Amy Koshy after the death of her best friend Patrick Kennedy, this toy drive serves to brighten the lives of children during the holiday season. In it's first year 1000 toys were collected and sent to an orphanage in Syzran, Russia. This year the drive will benefit the children at Jonathan's Place, a shelter for abused children here in Dallas.  New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off in the Pearce Choir Room from now until December 17. The Kennedy family are members of the Pearce community and we hope you will support this toy drive in Patrick's memory.

Visit www.patricksparadeoftoys.org for more information.

Congratulations to our Area Candidates: Lauren Bull, Shelby Button, Amy Lanford, Zach Sutton and Daniel Shnider.  They will compete again on January 5th on the road to All-State Choir.

The Pearce Athletic Booster Club and the Legacy Brick Steering Committee kicked off the PABC Legacy Brick Campaign.  This campaign is "Building the Pearce Legacy Brick by Brick" and will create a new showplace at Pearce outside the school entrance to the Gymnasium composed of engraved bricks commemorating students, alumni, faculty and community leaders.  Funds from the Legacy Brick Campaign will not only create this showplace but will also be used for some exciting new beautification and branding projects at Pearce benefiting all students.  You will not want to miss this opportunity to be among the first bricks to be laid.

You choose what your brick will say and what logos are used among many choices.  Click Here to view logo choices. Forms are available at the Pearce Information Desk or Click Here to download the form.  Your brick number will be assigned by when your order is received.  In other words, the earlier it is received, the lower brick number you will get!

Bricks cost $50 and payment must be made by cash or check when the order is placed.  Since many of you will want to order multiple bricks, remember that you must fill out an order form for each brick ordered.  Bricks make a great holiday, birthday, graduation, coach or teacher gift.  Forms may also be turned in at the Information Desk.  For further information please contact Sally Field at (972) 387-1914.

The Pearce PTA Student Directories were distributed during the last two weeks to parents and students that had pre-ordered the directory during school registration in August.  There are still some directories that have not been picked up.  If your student has not yet picked up his/her directory, they are still available through the school's receptionist at the front kiosk during normal school hours.  Additional directories can also be purchased from her for $5.00 each.  If you have any questions about the directories or your order, please contact lesatye@swbell.net

RECORD YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS NOW so that our school can get the recognition it deserves!

Simply go to the PTA website at www.jjpearcepta.org and click on 'Volunteer Hours'.  You can get to this website quickly from the link at the top of this enewsletter. OR email your name, the dates and hours you worked and the activity to one of the email addresses below.
